VelaShape® III

Innovative non-invasive medical body contouring

The effectiveness of VelaShape® III is based on ELOS™ technology, which combines bipolar infrared light that penetrates and warms the dermis, radiofrequency that penetrates and warms the subcutaneous tissue, and mechanical stimulation with a vacuum and massage, which dilates the capillaries and increases blood flow through the tissues. All three forms of energy, together with deep massage, therefore interact to overheat the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. As a result, blood flow in the skin and subcutaneous tissue increases, lymphatic drainage is increased and metabolism in the adipose tissue is stimulated.

The main benefits of VelaShape® III therapy are:

  • Guaranteed effect. VelaShape® technology has been in use for more than 10 years and during this period more than 5 million treatments have been performed worldwide. Its performance and effectiveness have been described and proven in the largest number of clinical studies of any body contouring device. VelaShape® III is therefore considered the most recognised body contouring therapy of our time.
  • Quality and speed. VelaShape® III uses high radiofrequency energy of 150 W to quickly and efficiently heat the subcutaneous tissue. This reduces the duration of each treatment and the number of repetitions by up to 75%.
  • The VelaShape® III treatment is comfortable and pleasant, much like a hot stone massage.
  • Convenience. The process takes less than an hour in most cases.
  • Whenever. VelaShape® III can be performed all year round, in all seasons, on all skin types and regardless of skin colour.

VelaShape® III therapy is a kind of anti-cellulite skin training. “Training” with Velashape® III maintains the “condition” of the skin and prevents the appearance of cellulite.

Which body parts is VelaShape® III suitable for?

The VelaShape® III procedure is effective and safe for treatments on the flanks, legs, buttocks, abdomen and upper arms.

Works on:

  • improving skin tone,
  • reducing the volume of the thighs, abdomen, upper arms,
  • reducing the level of cellulite on the buttocks, thighs and flanks.

It is mainly aimed at individuals with a body mass index between 20 and 30.

Improved, new technology

Velashape® III is an advanced system that can reduce the level of cellulite and restore skin tone. New insights into technology and medicine have enabled improvements to the device, which are based on extensive experience with the previous VelaSmooth®, VelaShape® I and VelaShape® II devices. By comparison, one treatment with VelaShape® III produces the same effect as 16 treatments with VelaSmooth® or two treatments with VelaShape® II.

What’s new about VelaShape® III is that it is the only device of all Vela systems that also works to reduce subcutaneous fat and volume in the torso or legs. This effect is made possible by the latest technology with sensitive sensors that accurately measure the skin temperature throughout the procedure, thus preventing side effects due to overheating and, on the other hand, allowing the maintenance of heat in the subcutaneous tissue, which stimulates the breakdown of fat cells.

In the USA, VelaShape® III is a therapy designed to temporarily reduce the volume of the abdomen and thighs and temporarily improve the appearance of cellulite. In addition, it is designed to relieve minor muscle pain and muscle spasms and improve blood circulation.

As a therapy, VelaShape® III is designed to non-invasively sculpt the body by reducing the volume of the torso or thighs and improving cellulite.

The effect of VelaShape® III on cellulite, skin tone and subcutaneous adipose tissue

The use of ELOS™ technology (IR light and RF current) causes the dermis and subcutaneous tissue to overheat, which is where cellulite originates. The mechanical energy of the vacuum and the massage accelerates blood circulation. The overheated blood from the IR light and RF current delivers more oxygen to the surrounding tissues. This speeds up the metabolism of the fat cells and the metabolism of the stored fat in the fat cells, resulting in a reduction in their size. As a result, irregularities on the surface of the skin are reduced, which are mainly due to increased fat cells pushing on the surface of the skin from the bottom outwards. The overall volume of the subcutaneous fat is reduced, which can be seen in the reduction of the volume of the torso or legs. Overheating of the skin causes shrinkage of existing collagen and the formation of new collagen, which can be seen in the improvement of skin tone.

How long are the individual procedures?

VelaShape® III therapy lasts up to one and a half hours (when performed on several areas), but for longer treatments the doctor may decide to perform the treatment in two parts lasting 45 minutes.

What are the results and when are they visible?

You will notice the results of your VelaShape® III treatment after the first treatment. Initially, this will be noticeable as an improvement in skin tone, after three treatments the effects will be visible in the reduction of visible cellulite, and after four treatments the effects will be visible in the volume of the body.

It is important to remember that the appearance of cellulite will certainly improve after treatment, but it will not disappear completely in everyone. The volume of the torso or legs will also decrease. Both will improve after therapy, but the degree of improvement depends most on the characteristics of the individual. The extent of improvement in cellulite and torso or leg circumference after VelaShape® III therapy, and the number of repetitions required, varies from person to person and depends on the individual’s current condition and physiological characteristics.

The effects of VelaShape® III therapy are temporary, so repeat treatments every 2-3 months are necessary to maintain the results. Similarly, muscle strength training also requires regular, but in comparison to VelaShape® III, much more frequent maintenance with exercise. A healthy lifestyle (diet and exercise) may help to improve the effect, but is not strictly necessary. Conversely, weight gain may impair the effect of VelaShape® III therapy.

Preparing for VelaShape® III therapy

  • The day before the procedure, we recommend using exfoliating creams or body scrubs to exfoliate the top part of the skin. Come to the procedure without any creams, oils or lotions on your skin. The skin must be dry and fragrance-free.
  • Hair interferes with the movement of the device and/or causes overheating of the therapy area. They must be removed to skin level before the treatment.
  • Drugs that interfere with blood clotting (Aspirin, Plavix, Pradaxa, Xarelto) should be avoided if the medical condition allows it.

Contraindications

Your suitability for the VelaShape® III procedure will be determined by your specialist. We do not perform the procedure on people with the following contradictions:

  • a built-in pacemaker or pacemaker of another type
  • metal implant or other implants in the treatment area
  • skin cancer or other types of cancer during or in the past, and dysplastic nevi
  • presence of major chronic internal medicine diseases, e.g. heart disease, etc.
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding, less than 4-5 months after natural childbirth and 6 months after caesarean section
  • immune dysfunction due to disease or immunosuppressant treatment
  • poorly managed diabetes or thyroid disease
  • active inflammation of the skin in the treatment area
  • very dry and vulnerable skin, prone to keloids
  • blood clotting disorder or taking anticoagulants
  • surgery in the therapy area 3 months ago
  • performing the treatment via a tattoo or permanent make-up
  • varicose veins in the treatment area
  • the procedure should not be carried out less than one hour after the last meal
  • not suitable for people with a bmi > 3

Possible side effects

Possible side effects may occur during or immediately after VelaShape® III therapy. Most of them are due to incorrect performance, but all are rare and temporary. In case of occurrence, please report them to the staff or the doctor in order to adjust the parameters of the device at the next visit.

The following side effects may occur in the treatment area:

  • pain,
  • intense redness of the skin,
  • plucking the hair (using the rollers of the device),
  • changes to the surface of the skin (abrasions, scabs, blisters and burns),
  • bruises.

What do you need to know about cellulite?

Cellulite is characterised by indentations and bulges on the surface of the skin. The fat cells in the subcutaneous tissue are located in separate spaces demarcated by vertical and horizontal connective tissue. The latter is rigid and non-extensible. If the volume of the spaces where the fat cells are located increases, due to fluid retention and/or an increase in fat cells, the connective tissue does not stretch. The increased pressure in the spaces pushes the surface of the skin outwards and the irregularities on the surface of the skin typical of cellulite appear.

The truth about cellulite

  • Cellulite and skin tone cannot be improved by any exercise or diet.
  • Cellulite is not related to body weight, and female athletes can also have it.
  • Cellulite is caused by the structure of the subcutaneous connective tissue, which is typical of most women. In men and some women, the connective tissue does not run vertically, but obliquely towards the surface of the skin, so cellulite does not occur in them.

Nurnberger-Muller classification of cellulite using the pinch test

By gently squeezing the skin fold between the index finger and thumb in the area where the treatment is to be performed, the four stages of cellulite can be distinguished:

  • Level 0. No changes are visible on the skin (no indentations when standing). No orange skin is seen in the skinfold compression test. Figure A
  • Grade 1: Skin is smooth in standing and lying position, with dimples and bumps visible in the pinch test. Figure B
  • Grade 2. Orange skin is visible when standing, without any tightness of the skin or muscles of the buttocks. Figure C
  • Stage 3. Lesions are visible in the same way as in stage 2, with the addition of bumps and indentations and pits (larger bumps visible in standing and lying down). Figure D
