Hair electrolysis is the only method for complete hair removal approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The other two hair removal treatments, hair lasers and IPL technology, only permanently reduce the number and size of hairs and are therefore more suitable for larger areas with dark hairs.
So why choose electrolysis? Hair lasers and IPL technology cannot be used by people with dark complexions or sun-tanned skin. They are also less effective on grey, light brown, red and thin hair, or on parts of the face such as the chin or just under the nose, while they are even discouraged around the eyes. Despite repeated applications of hair lasers and IPL, sometimes a few stubborn, individual hairs remain, and electrolysis is an excellent solution for these too.
Efficiency
During electrolysis epilation, a very fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle, and then the ultra-fast 27 MHz frequency and the highly sophisticated high-frequency current technique, which works in the immediate vicinity of the hair root and not on the surface of the skin, cause the complete and permanent destruction of the cells responsible for hair growth. Older electroepilation devices had a lower operating frequency, however it heated the surrounding skin more intensely, making the procedure more painful, with more side effects such as prolonged redness and scarring.
Safety and treatment procedure
The safety and efficacy of electrolysis epilation is confirmed by a 120-year history. Today, we also use disposable epilation needles and modern antiseptics to prepare the skin for the procedure. Whether hair removal will hurt depends on variable factors such as sensitivity, certain skin conditions, mental fitness, physical fatigue and more. During electrolysis, we most often feel prickling, minor heat and tingling, but their intensity can be adjusted as necessary by adjusting the device, the size of the epilation needles and the duration of the procedure.
Soothing the skin
The skin is usually red for a short time, a few days at most, and occasionally small bumps are seen near the hair follicles, which quickly disappear.
We strongly recommend the following:
- Wash your skin once a day after the procedure with water and liquid soap. Afterwards, you can use an antiseptic solution.
- Do not touch, scratch or rub the skin with your hands, as this can introduce bacteria.
- Do not use abrasive gels with granules for at least three days after the washing procedure.
- Protect yourself from the sun with coverings and SPF creams until the redness disappears after the procedure.
- Use fresh make-up that is less than three months old to cover redness, as this will reduce the likelihood of infection.
Treatment results and repetition
Thanks to the higher power and up to six times the speed of other devices, electrolysis based epilation can focus the energy more intensively on the hair follicle and achieve the desired result much faster. Nevertheless, the number of repetitions and the time needed to achieve complete removal are influenced by many factors: heredity, number of hairs, duration of growth cycles, hormonal influences and age.
Permanent removal, which is achieved in about 93% of all people with this procedure, is certainly most effective when repeated at intervals ranging from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the body part.
Price
If you consider the price of depilatory creams, razors, tweezers, waxes, depilatory devices, not to mention the time and pain saved, the price of permanent hair removal with electrolysis hair removal (or hair lasers and/or IPL) is definitely the best value.
Laser, IPL or electrolysis epilation
The advantages of hair lasers and IPL are certainly seen in the speed and the larger area of skin that can be treated. On the other hand, the drawbacks are that they work well on dark hair, less well on light and red hair and very poorly on grey and white hair. Also, the skin must not be suntanned before the procedure, otherwise superficial burns can occur. Hair lasers and IPL do not remove the hairs completely as they only reduce their number and size to the point where they are no longer bothersome for most people.
