SUB-2 is a rejuvenation therapy for the face, neck and/or décolleté that aims to reduce wrinkles, tighten enlarged pores, improve skin tone and certain types of acne scars.
We have been performing the procedure at the Derma Center Rogaška/Maribor since 2010 and our experience as well as the number of satisfied users who underwent the procedure in the past is highly significant.
SUB-2 is one of the non-invasive procedures in aesthetic dermatology, where the body is not intervened with surgical instruments. It is only the energy of the device’s handpieces that is transmitted into the skin, heating all skin layers and the upper part of the subcutaneous tissue in a controlled manner. The skin rejuvenation effect is due to the body’s own mechanisms activated in the skin healing process.
Who is a suitable candidate for SUB-2?
SUB-2 is a procedure which reduces wrinkles and tightens enlarged pores, improves skin tone and reduces some types of acne scars. In aesthetic dermatology, there are many procedures that have a similar effect. The decision on whether SUB-2 is suitable for you should be entrusted to the dermatologist at the Derma Center Rogaška/Maribor, who will assess whether you are a suitable candidate for this type of treatment on the basis of a discussion and examination.
How does SUB-2 work?
SUB-2 is the use of two different technologies, the end effect of which is a two-level skin rejuvenation.
The first part of the procedure is performed using a fractional infrared red laser, which, combined with a radiofrequency current, heats the subcutaneous tissue and the deep part of the skin. The skin surface remains intact due to the strong cooling of the device’s nozzle. The heating of the middle and deep layers of the skin stimulates the fibroblasts (cells in the dermis) to produce new collagen and shrink existing collagen. The effect is visible on the skin tone of the face and neck and the reduction of wrinkles. The process of collagen formation lasts for 4 to 6 months after the procedure.
The second part of the procedure uses a fractional RF current, which is applied to the skin surface and the top layer of the skin using a handpiece in the form of a grid of evenly spaced microprobes. The spot heating of the skin shrinks the collagen and stimulates the formation of new collagen in the fibroblasts. The effect of the latter is greater on the surface of the skin, which becomes smoother, with tighter pores and fewer wrinkles.
What effect can be expected?
After the treatment, you can expect smoother and more radiant skin, with tighter pores, reduced scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, and shallower deep wrinkles. In addition, skin tone on the neck and face is improved. In most cases, skin improvement is noticeable after 3 to 6 months, and in some patients after just a few days.
What is the risk of side effects?
The entire process is slightly unpleasant. The first step, where the deeper part of the skin is stimulated to regenerate, is quite bearable, accompanied by the feeling of warmth and occasional mild burning pain. However, the second part, which works more superficially on fine lines, enlarged pores and skin tone, has a burning sensation during the pulse. The use of an anaesthetic cream, a ventilator or cool air and other measures help to make the sensation of pain during the procedure bearable. After the procedure, a mild sunburn-like pain is felt, which subsides within 2 hours.
The expected after-effects are redness, mild swelling, small brown scabs lasting for about 5 days on the face and a little longer on the neck.
Unexpected and extremely rare occurrences include severe facial swelling, scarring, uneven skin surface, transient or permanent skin pigmentation disorders.
Most patients experience redness and mild swelling that lasts from 2-3 hours to 3 days after the procedure (rarely longer). A soothing cream appropriate to the skin type is applied immediately after the procedure. By the next day, tiny brown dots appear, which represent the entry points of the RF current. This is a drying of the epidermis, which peels off in 5-14 days. They can be easily covered with a tinted cream or make-up after a day or two after the procedure. The effect of SUB-2 gradually appears over the course of time and intensifies with the repetition of the therapy. The final effect is visible 3 to 6 months after the treatment.
Are there other treatments used to achieve a similar effect?
A similar effect is achieved with Morpheus8 and Fractora in the low-energy version, where the application of an anaesthetic cream is sufficient to anaesthetise the skin before the procedure. The same applies to the CO2RE laser at lower energy and depth settings.
Can SUB-2 be combined with other rejuvenation treatments?
SUB-2 is basically a combination of two different procedures aimed at rejuvenating the skin of the face, neck or décolleté. The effect can be optimised with botulinum toxin, fillers, PRX- T33, photorejuvenation, Tulium laser and other treatments.
