Treatment
miraDry® permanently removes underarm sweat and odour glands which then remain dry even in stressful situations. More than 70,000 successful treatments worldwide prove that sweating is reduced by up to 82 % after mere two treatments, resulting in sweat odour being eliminated and one’s perspiration no longer bothersome. The effectiveness of the technology is thus comparable to a surgical method, nevertheless a 100 % reduction cannot be achieved as it would cause excessively dry and itchy skin.
There are between two and four million sweat glands in the body. As only around 2 % of these are found under the armpits, their removal does not affect the body’s ability to cool itself. Since miraDry® works in a targeted way leaving the nerves intact, the so-called compensatory sweating on other parts of the body does not occur, as evident in some surgical procedures.
Will underarm hair also be removed?
On account of the technology working deep in the subcutaneous tissue, where the hair follicles are located alongside the sweat glands, up to 70 % of all hair, dark, light, grey, is removed in one treatment. In comparison, laser based procedure usually requires as many as six therapies to remove 80 % of the hair, on condition its colour is of a dark enough shade.
How does miraDry® work?
MiraWaveTM technology generates heat, precisely delivered to the specific area where the sweat glands reside and safely eliminates them.
- The accurately positioned handpiece is activated, which will make you feel a slight suction resulting from the vacuum as your skin and glands are brought closer to the handpiece surface for maximum results.
- MiraWaveTM energy released targets the sweat glands and overheats them to disable their function.
- Owing to the simultaneous maximum cooling provided by the handpiece, the top layers of the skin are strongly protected.
Persons experiencing average underarm sweating need only one treatment. Those suffering from excessive sweating and diagnosed with hyperhidrosis need two miraDry® therapies. Lasting results are expected in both cases.
It takes about an hour and a half for the physician to perform the procedure after which you will notice immediate results. As a customary follow-up step, the physician will define the most suitable skin care protocol in your case and prescribe a second treatment, if required, to attain maximal results.
miraDry is indicated for persons suffering from hyperhidrosis – experiencing excessive underarm sweating which is not due to physical exertion or mental stress. The action of antiperspirants in these people is short-lived or completely ineffective. The treatment is furthermore suitable also in the case of occasional perspiration which impacts your professional and social life owing to underarm wet stains or odour, or if you simply no longer wish to use antiperspirants. miraDry is not indicated for persons under 18 years of age.
Owing to local anaesthesia most patients experience no major discomfort or pain.
