Skin rejuvenation with own platelet-rich plasma

ne of the newer procedures that stimulate skin cells to undergo an intensive renewal process similar to healing is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) rejuvenation.

After the platelets have been extracted from a small amount of blood by centrifugation, they are re-injected under the skin to stimulate it to produce new collagen and capillaries, increase elasticity, and improve tone, thickness and colour. PRP is also designed for long-term smoothing of wrinkles, scars and faster healing after aesthetic procedures.

Reliability and tradition

This procedure has been used in medicine since the 1970s. It was first pioneered in/adopted by sports medicine for the treatment of injuries. Today the healing ability of platelets is used in many fields, including dermatology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, plastic surgery and others. In fact, the use of the cells in a person from whom they have been harvested is completely safe.

Skin rejuvenation and accelerated hair growth

PRP stimulates the production of the basic building blocks of the skin, collagen and elastin, as well as blood vessels. The skin is smoother, rosy and fine lines are smoothed. It is also suitable for people with acne and rosacea or to support skin healing after aesthetic procedures.  It also has the beneficial property that the growth factors released from the platelets stimulate hair growth, increase hair density and thicken hair shafts.

Procedure

After examining the skin and talking to the dermatologist, the nurse will draw an appropriate amount of blood from the vein, which will be centrifuged to extract the platelet-rich plasma, which takes about 15 minutes. An anaesthetic cream is applied to the site of the procedure and then the doctor injects the plasma into the selected area using a needle. As allergies and skin irritation are excluded, the treatment is also suitable for people with sensitive skin and for areas of the face such as the under-eye or eyelids, where the skin is thinner and the signs of ageing appear first.

Results

The fastest changes are noticeable after just one week, but you should wait at least six to eight weeks for the final result. The effect of PRP therapy given at least three times within a few weeks can last from a year to a year and a half.

Combinations with other therapies

PRP in aesthetic dermatology is combined with many other procedures, especially those that cause controlled damage to the skin, such as fractionated laser or radiofrequency, microneedling, medium-depth chemical peels, ion plasma or others. Thus, we stimulate the healing of the skin and produce a welcoming effect on the final result.

Warnings when taking medicines

Some drugs such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, Ketonal and corticosteroids can slow down the healing process and are therefore not recommended for patients who are treated with them on a daily basis. You absolutely need to discuss contraindications with your doctor and bring a list of medicines and food supplements you take regularly.

Platelets are small flat cells in the blood that contain many proteins and other substances that promote cell growth and help new tissue to form. Platelet-rich plasma is obtained by centrifuging the patient’s blood. Using a special apparatus, it takes 15 minutes for the plasma to be ready and then injected into the subcutaneous tissue via a fine needle at the sites to be treated. Such plasma contains a high concentration of growth factor and other proteins involved in skin renewal and rejuvenation.
