Skin rejuvenation with own stem cells

Skin rejuvenation with skin’s own stromal stem cells from adipose tissue and SVF* is a new method based on natural regeneration mechanisms.

The stroma is the supporting tissue in the fat to which the stromal stem cells are attached, hence their name. The procedure therefore uses only the body’s own cells, which have the ability to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin. The result is a fresh and youthful appearance, with the traces of ageing that have appeared over the years being erased.

Stem cells

The human body is made up of more than 200 different highly specialised cells that, in certain combinations, make up tissues and organs. Their lifespan varies, and they all need to be renewed. Stem cells help them to do this, with the basic functions of replacing cells, repairing damaged tissues and reducing chronic inflammation.

Responsible for restoration

There are several types of stem cells. Skin rejuvenation requires stromal stem cells from adipose tissue, as they can even divide and develop into several types of specialised cells and tissues, such as cartilage, fat or muscle… Discovered in 2001 and first used in humans in 2007, many clinical studies have since confirmed their safety and effectiveness in repairing worn cartilage in joints, skin damage from burns or radiation, and a wide range of other diseases.

Easy retrieval

Mini-liposuction is performed on the flanks or elsewhere on the body under local anaesthesia to extract about 200 ml of fat containing stem cells. A high-tech laboratory procedure using an enzymatic method is then used to extract the stem cells. Although this method is technically much more demanding than competitive mechanical harvesting, it is also infinitely more efficient, as it yields far more live stem cells. The number of stem cells determines the final effect and the skin rejuvenation action.

Combined for better effect

In addition to stromal stem cells, the adipose tissue also produces the so-called stromal vascular fraction, or SVF*, which further helps to regenerate capillaries, collagen and elastin in the skin and boosts its immune defences. It is precisely because of the additional cells that SVF has been shown in clinical studies to have a better effect than solely stromal stem cells from adipose tissue.

* The stromal vascular fraction, or SVF, is composed of stem cells located in the supporting tissue, or so-called stroma, and other important cells (pericytes, fibroblasts, preadipocytes, lymphocytes) that further influence the success of skin rejuvenation.

When is the procedure advised against?

In the case of:

  • poor general health,
  • active infection of the skin or body with fungi, viruses or bacteria,
  • skin cancer or after skin cancer,
  • taking medicines, supplements, diseases that affect coagulation,
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  • treatment with immunosuppressants or antimetabolites in the last year;
  • after radiotherapy or
  • after using of Ca-hydroxyapatite (RADIESSE), hyaluronic acid or CA-hydroxyapatite (NEAUVIA) fillers.
